Instructions for submitting a Grant Application 

Instructions for those organizations submitting a grant application


Before submitting a grant application, please verify that your request meets the following minimum qualifications:

1.     Your organization can document that it is a federally registered 501 (c) (3) non-profit entity. Grant(s) cannot be made to individuals.


2.     Your organization is located within one of the six (6) New England states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut.


3.     The grant will be used to preserve and/or restore historically significant railroad or traction equipment, structures or provide information for the enjoyment and education of the general public and must not exceed $10,000.


4.     Requests received not meeting these qualifications will not be considered.


5.     The Grant Application Form may be downloaded from the Mystic Valley Railway Society web site ( by clicking here. Follow all instructions on the Grant Application Form and provide all requested information. Incomplete applications will not be considered.


6.     Program/Project should be completed within one year from the award date.


7.     A final report should be submitted within thirty (30) days of completion of the Program/Project to Mystic Valley Railway Society, PO Box 365486, Hyde Park, MA, 02136 – 0009, Attn: Grant Committee.


8.     Any Grant recipient shall be ineligible for consideration of a future award for the next three (3) consecutive years.


9.     MVRS reserves the right to schedule payouts over time. (ie: initial payout of 50 % of grant total, recipient then must provide updates six (6) and nine (9) months later for remaining 50% in two (2) installments of 25% each.
